With her careers as world-class forensic anthropologist, bestselling author and producer of the hit TV series Bones, Kathy Reichs is a trifecta of accomplishments. Recently her broad-spanning wings have spread to include the title “screenwriter” (for the season five Bones episode “The Witch in the Wardrobe”) and now—with the publication of Virals—“young adult author.” A fascinating blend of forensic science and fantasy sure to appeal to a new generation of Bones fans, Virals introduces Tory Brennan, niece of acclaimed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.
Fourteen-year-old Tory is the leader of a ragtag band of teenage "sci-philes" who live on a secluded island off the coast of South Carolina. When the group rescues a dog caged for medical testing on a nearby island, they are exposed to an experimental virus that changes their lives forever.
As the friends discover their heightened senses and animal-quick reflexes, they must combine their scientific curiosity with their newfound gifts to solve a cold-case murder that has suddenly become very hot—if they can stay alive long enough to catch the killer's scent.
Fortunately, they are now more than friends—they're a pack. They are Virals.

Not a big fan of the "Bones" books but this new series (I hope it will be a series) is suspenseful & fun. Characters are easy to root for.
I have just finished reading "Virals", the new book by author Kathy Reichs. This book is amazing and very enjoyable to read. I have been a fan of Kathy for some time now and enjoy her Temperance Brennan novels very much even though sometimes I have a bit of difficulty keeping up with the technicalities of Tempe's profession.
Virals on the other hand (probably because it is geared toward a younger clientele) is an easy and enjoyable read. The members of the "pack" are all teenagers with all the adventursome nature and curiosity of teenagers and the whole thing just works. I hope she will continue to write more stories about Hi, Shelton, Ben, Tory(the leader of the "pack") and of course Cooper, the wolfdog.

I totally enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and yet, held my attention throughout. Reminds me a little of the MAX books by James Patterson (which I love). Can't wait for a sequel....
I totally enjoyed this new book. The story grabs you and makes you feel for the characters. The blending of true teenage feelings and fiction of being "Virals" is perfect. I look forward to the next book!
