Following on the heels of beloved stories such as The Tale of Despereaux, a Newbery Medal winner; Because of Winn-Dixie, which received a Newbery Honor and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, which won a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, is this magical novel by the acclaimed author Kate DiCamillo.
The Magician’s Elephant is a haunting fable about trusting the unexpected—and making the impossible come true. When a magician’s rather extraordinary feat turns a town on its head, it gives an orphaned boy named Peter new hope that his long-lost sister, Adele, can be found. And in his search for Adele, Peter proves to the magician, a childless couple and countless others that miracles can happen. (Ages 6-12)

It was not as good as THE TALE OF DESPEROX but it was deffinily better than THE MERACULUS TALE OF EDWARD TULANE.

This book will be a Christmas gift for my almost nine year old grandaughter and I'm sure she will love it. I am on the Board of Trustees for the local library and have suggested that the library purchase this book for our childrens section.

The unexpected permeates this story about a boy thrust into a life of sorrow and loss. Hope remains the key as he believes he can find a sister presumed dead through the pursuit of an elephant conjured by a magician who is as surprised as the rest of the town by his amazing feat.
Kate Camillo is a great storyteller, whose fresh ideas and constant story lines of hope and redemption are always a joy to read. This book will not disappoint Camillo fans.
