Following the colossal battle against the Empire’s warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep.
First is Eragon’s oath to his cousin Roran: to help rescue Roran’s beloved, Katrina, from King Galbatorix’s clutches. But Eragon owes his loyalty to others, too. When unrest claims the rebels and danger strikes from every corner, Eragon must make choices—choices that may lead to unimagined sacrifice.
Eragon is the greatest hope to rid the land of tyranny. Can this once-simple farm boy unite the rebel forces and defeat the king? (Ages 9-12)

Christopher Paolini is a mastermind. On par with the LOTR, Eragon, Eldest, and this story, Brisingr, are all three amazing beautiful and creatively imaginative! Every character is interesting and dynamic, and the plot is twisted and wrapped up so that every chapter reveals something new. I can't wait to read the fourth in the series and see how Angela's prophecy from way back in the first finally fulfills itself!

On my second reread of this book, and third of Eragon and Eldest, I enjoy "watching" Eragon grow from a young, very sheltered and naive farmboy who expects little of himself. It is like watch your children grow and learn about themselves and their world. Discovery is growth. From a parental perspective, this is the most awesome aspect of these stories. Discovering oneself is what life is all about.

I bought the whole series for my Grandson. He says each book is better than the last one. So he loves the whole series.

each book gets better - unlike many other series. his battle descriptions are authentic and his attention to the details of each scene makes you feel like you are there. i am impressed with paolini's maturity as a writer; it is easy to see his skill increase with each book in the series. i am definitely a fan and hope he continues to write for a long time - whether it be of dragons or any other great story.
