Imagine a 21st century where mythical Greek gods really exist: Mount Olympus is in the Empire State Building, the gates of the Underworld are in Hollywood, and children of mortals and gods known as demigods train to protect themselves from their mortal enemies at a summer camp on Long Island called Camp Half-Blood. It is here that 12-year-old Percy Jackson discovers that his dad is actually Poseidon, God of the Sea. With a premise like that is it really any wonder that The Lightning Thief, book 1 in Rick Riordan’s #1 NYT bestselling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, not only racked up all sorts of awards and rave reviews, but also inspired a star-studded movie destined to become the next big blockbuster? This series was a lot of fun to read. It was fast reading, and held my attention throughout. The Lightning Thief was a wonderful beginning to an amazing series. I have since loaned this out to several friends and their kids, all of whom love the books. This is a great read!

My teacher gave me this book long ago as an birthday gift. Back then I did not read much unless I had to but I learned that I can enjoy reading more then watching TV or playing video games.
I ended up hunting down all of the books as they came out eager to find out what happened next. FYI this was back when the 1st book just came out so it was a long wait for each book.

I bought this particular book for my daughter at her request, then I read it myself. Not only was this a fun read, but it enticed us to purchase the rest of the series. We are on the last book now and have enjoyed every moment of the stories! A definite must have for anyone's library!!

I actually picked up this book for my nephew...with the bribe that if he did NOT like it...I would give him $5 (he hated to read) and guess what...i never had to pay up! he loved this book and the rest of the series..and because he enjoyed it so much, i read it just so i could keep up with his excited chatter. and i loved them!!! a great book to share with the kids.

I bought this book for my daughter. Of course, I read it first. I couldn't put it down. It is so action packed I had to find out what happened next. I will certainly read other books in this series.
