I usually like these types of fantasies, but for some reason as a child I could never get into this series.

I believe The Chronicles of Narnia are some of the best children's books ever written. C.S. Lewis is extremely profound, and he is a superb storyteller. (Note: C.S. Lewis was actually an acquaintance, though also a rival, of Tolkein, who wrote the Lord of the Rings series.) "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is generally considered the first book in the Narnia series. In terms of story sequence, the events in "The Magician's Nephew" occur first, but I recommend starting with "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." Enjoy!
