Where the Wild Things Are

When a misbehaving Max is banished to his room without dinner by his mother, he does what any kid would love to do: he sails to a distant island populated by giant, freakish monsters who are every bit as wild as he is. Even better—they’re impressed enough by his ferocious claws and indomitable spirit to make him their king.

For decades, Maurice Sendak’s Caldecott Medal-winning picture book has been delighting folks of all ages who’ve ever fantasized about becoming lord of their own rumpus. So go ahead—let the wind fill your sail and take you to where the wild things are, then cut loose the monster within. Your porridge will still be hot—and your mother will still love you—when you get back. (All ages)

There's a reason some books are classics!
March 22, 2010

The simple text leaves so much for the reader and listener to imagine, and that makes this a time-less amazing classic for any generation! Read this 10-yrs ago with our oldest, who loved that Max was crowned King, but was scared of the monsters, so we played up the king and played down the monsters. Now, with her younger brother, he loves a reading with lots of action, roaring, violent seas and wild rumpus-ing. It can be as tuned-up or as toned-down as you want it - and that makes it classically perfect :)

Stimulates the postive memories
March 22, 2010

I was delighted to see this book back in print. I am 37 years and recalls checking this book put as many times as possible during my elementary school stent. This book brings back postive memories of my love for reading in the reading tree house that was in the school library. I now have a copy for my child who is yet to be conceived.
