A Classic!!

We read this book just after visiting the swan boats in Boston! My 4 year old loves talking about how he saw the actual home of the ducklings! Great read!

This book was required this year for Language Arts in kindergarten. It was a delightful story!

Endearing tale

We just bought this for our son's 4th birthday. We have read it just once, but he enjoyed it and I expect to read it many more times. A classic story sure to touch a child's heart.

Make way for downtime
March 28, 2007

With an ongoing project of integrating my grandchildren's libraries with the classics of children's literature, I purchased Make Way for Duckings for my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter. She absolutely loves it! She carries it around, "reads" it to her 9 month old brother, and has to have it read to her every day. This is a true classic that has stood the test of time. I believe this book is better understood by a 4-6 year old, because it requires a longer attention span than most younger children have. In our fast-paced world of non-stop action, it is easy to see why this quiet story with monochromatic drawings would not appeal to some children. As a former kindergarten teacher, I know that quiet, calm activites need to be interspersed with energetic activities throughout the day. Make Way for Ducklings would be just the thing for a quiet downtime read.

Make Way for Ducklings

My husband and I found this book to be very long and very boring. The illustrations are very cute, but they can't make up for a story line that isn't interesting at all. We dreaded reading it so much that we finally just sold it at a garage sale.
