Fun & Educational

My children are 3 and almost two, and they simply love this book! If they had to pick a favorite book, it would either be this one or "Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do you See?", also by Eric Carle. My son is 22 months and he probably enjoys it more than my 3-year-old daughter. He loves to name the animals and colors on each page, and the repetition makes it easy for my daughter to "read" to herself. I definitely recommend this (or any of this author's text) for very young children. You will get excited as you read to them simply because of how into it they will be!

We just got this book two days ago and me, my hubbs and my 2 year old know it by heart. It is so dang cute. Simple and classic!

Great read aloud
January 19, 2010

My two little boys have loved this book for months now (they were first introduced to it at 16 months and 30 months). It is such a fun book to read aloud because of the repetition and the rhythm. My older son is almost three and has it memorized, but he feels like he is "reading." My other son who is almost two will make me read this to him over and over and over and over... I love that the book teaches colors ("BROWN bear", "GREEN frog", etc.). The last page where they list all the animals is great because when you help your child point to each animal in reading rhythm, they learn the "return sweep" pattern of the written language (we read from left to right, top to bottom), which is essential for learning how to read. I am personally not a huge fan of Eric Carle's artwork, but it is bright and colorful, and more importantly, my kids like it, which lends to the enjoyment they take in the book.

Excellent, works great for learning colors

My 18 month old loves this book. We read it at least 3 times a day and it has really helped her with learning colors. She is able to point to all the animals when you ask her colors. Maybe it's just memorization but it works for me. I now have it memorized since we read it so often.
