the hullaballoo over this book. My son read it in school and we went to see the movie together, which I loved. After that, I bought the book and read it for the first time since I was very little. I did not understand why it was so loved...
The illustrations are dull, colorless and unexciting. The entire book is just a person telling a story. There is no dialogue. There is no action that actually seems like action. Most of all, the book fails to follow the number one rule of writing: "show, don't tell!"
All in all, a very dull book. I wish I hadn't purchased it.

I remember this from when I was in school and it is a great joy to share this with my children. This is a wonderful lighthearted story for all ages.

This was one of my children's favorite books so I had to get a new one for my grandchildren so they can know this wonderful story.

The land of Chewandswallow has completely set my four year old daughter's imagination in motion! She actually laughed out loud the first time I read it to her. Each time we read it she notices something new in the illustrations! It is definitely a great book for kids. I am so glad I purchased it.

I have read through this book myself and am quite excited to read it to my daughter once she lets me. She is three and won't let me turn the first page for some reason. Maybe too wordy & detailed pictured for her taste at this moment.
