My First Book of Sign

In My First Book of Sign, author Pamela J. Baker brings your child the miracle and joy of communicating with a hearing-impaired person. Written for children just beginning to read, this remarkable, alphabetically arranged book contains finger spellings for 150 frequently used nouns and verbs common to young children. And each word is accompanied by Patricia Bellan Gillen’s marvelous illustrations! Young ones will be delighted by these brightly colored drawings that depict a child forming the sign along with an easy-to-follow explanation of how to actually make the forms. Signing is an important skill children will enjoy learning how to master, and this wonderful book makes it easy. Oversized. (4-6/ 6-9)

Very nice but not a lot of information

This is a very cute book and does teach children a few signs but not that many. I was a little disappointed.

Okay
March 06, 2006

I have heard that teaching your children sign language at an early age helps their brains. I purchased this book hoping it would give me signs that you use everyday but it didn't. It is for kids that already know how to talk.

A very helpful book
November 21, 2005

I work with autistic children, and have recently started to sign to speak to my one child. I ordered this book in hopes that I would be able to learn more, in a simple way- and it definately was more then I expected! The pictures were even simple enough that she could do it along with me!

Not worth the money
August 01, 2005

This book isn't really very helpful for learning sign language. There are about 60 pages of pictures. there are 2 pages per letter of alphabet and give a few words per letter with a picture and a cartoon character doing the sign. So, you can't really tell how to move your hand if you are trying to make the sign. I don't see little kids being able to use this. so, i would skip this one. sorry i spend $12 plus shipping on it.
