All of these books have been placed on the ALA's banned and censored book list. That being said my 4 year old enjoys them very much.

Humor that appleals to all ages

Shel Silverstein writes poetry that is fun for all ages. This collection has 3 of his wonderful poetry books plus his short story "The Giving Tree". "The Giving Tree" is a sweet story that tells about sharing and compassion, a wonderful addition to any library. The poetry books "Where the Sidewalk Ends", "A Light in the Attic", and "Falling Up" are full of humorous poems that appeal to children and adults alike. Great books to introduce the genre of poetry and also to instill an early love of poetry in children. I'm an elementary/middle school English as a Second Language teacher. I use these poems to teach poetry, rhyme, grammar, phonics... whatever I can tie back to literature! My students enjoy the humor in Silverstein's poetry. I have not yet read these poems to my own children (4 and 2), but will do so when they get a little older. "The Giving Tree" is right for their age group though. All 4 of these books are great additions to any library! Thanks Shel Silverstein, for your humor and creativity!
