How to Behave and Why
May 12, 2012

I thought this book was very well written and would appeal well to anyone who has an autism spectrum disorder - not just for little kids. A previous reviewer said she didn't like the reference to debtor's prison. Well Mr. Munro Leaf lived a long time ago and they had that back then. But, there should be responsibility according to money responsibility. This book is written with a view to how everyone should behave.

Old-Fashioned Reminders!
May 02, 2012

First, this book is probably best for 6 years and up!....that being said, I think it is a good reminder of how different things are from the time it was written to now. For example, as other reviewers mentioned - telling the kid that behaving a certain way is "stupid". We coddle our kids so much - that actually seems "harsh" to some people (I'm laughing out loud right now). Children and adult need this kind of refresher. It is true - if you lie, steal, cheat...people won't like you. If that sounds harsh, you need this book more than others. It is a great book for starting conversations with your older child about how people should behave....and how different things were 60+ years ago.

Not Happy
May 01, 2012

I thought that this book sounded like a good idea...until I read it. It is obviously a lot older that I was thinking, in terms of language and in terms of thought. I'm surprised the author didn't mention debtors prison! I found it judgemental, harsh, and not at all thoughtful or kind, which is what I prefer to teach.

Not the greatest
April 13, 2012

As an adult, I think the book is cute. What I did not like was the use of the words "dumb" or "stupid". Why would you tell a child that if they act a certain way the would be dumb or stupid. Also, I did not like the fact that it tells the children that people will not like them if they don't behave, it could have been said a better way.

Really enjoyed it.

My granddaughters, ages 8 and 5, enjoyed this book. We read it and talked about it and enjoyed the characters. A good way for them to become conscious of why we should behave with kindness toward others.
